The LUNGS (Loisaida United Neighborhood Gardens) Spring Awakening begins with a parade (12 pm – 1 pm) that starts from one community garden (El Sol Brillante) and goes by other community gardens in the neighborhood. 

From 1 pm until 4 pm, there are several events happening on Avenue B (between 7th and 9th Streets) and in the community gardens in the area. 

A bokashi tabling will be there providing information and someone to explain the bokashi method.

Part 3 of 3. 

In this workshop, the bokashi food waste and EM FPE (fermented plant extract) that were made in Part 2 (May 10) will be ready to use. We will apply them to the soil, as well as the EM•5 that was made in Part 1 (April 19).

Part 2 of 3. 

In Part 1 (April 19), the 2 bokashi ferments that were made, bokashi sprinkle and bokashi spray, will now (part 2) be used to ferment food waste (to make bokashi food waste or fermented food waste, FFW) and to make EM FPE (Fermented Plant Extract). 

In Part 3 (May 31), the FFW and EM FPE will be fermented and ready to use. We will apply them to the soil, as well as the EM•5 that was made in part 1.

Part 1 of 3. 

An intro to the basics of bokashi gardening and soil care (towards creating a living soil). Learn the two main ways to make bokashi: the bokashi sprinkle with wheat bran and the bokashi spray (a liquid bokashi ferment). We will also make EM•5 foliar spray which is used to spray on plants and trees, as well as treat the soil. 

In Part 2 (May 10), the two bokashi ferments, bokashi sprinkle and bokashi spray, will be ready to use. We will use them to treat food waste to make bokashi food waste, and also make EM FPE (Fermented Plant Extract). 

In Part 3 (May 31), the bokashi food waste (fermented food waste) and EM FPE will be ready to use. We will apply them to the soil, as well as the EM•5 made in part 1.
